The Scales Project

WHAT IS THE SCALES PROJECT?

The Scales Project is a conversation between artists. It is a call-and-response, a provocation, and a forum for connection and communication through art about the climate crisis and ecological collapse.

Artists take cues from each other’s work, posing and responding to aesthetic, moral, and personal questions that consider our relationship to the natural environment, how we have arrived where we are in the Anthropocene, and how and who we will be in the future.

Conversation 36 - Alexandrya Eaton and Jenny Berkel

Excerpt from 'Sitting Alone in the Near Nude in the Dark Beside a Lake' by Jenny Berkel

"what
what is it
what is it about
what is it about a lake
what is it about a lake that makes you
what is it about a lake that makes you think"

Since releasing her debut album, Here on a Wire, Canadian singer-songwriter Jenny Berkel has been captivating listeners with her evocative songs and voice. Born in the heart of Ontario's lush forests and fields, Berkel's music has drawn her from rural Ontario to Winnipeg to Montreal and now, finally, back home. This constant shifting finds its rest in her songs — sharp and introspective, they shimmer with memories and poetic observations.
